STARskaters 3v3 Co-ed Division 2017

3v3 Tournament Rules

Game Format:

  • Games will be played on both halves of the ice simultaneously with the same game clock.

  • 15 minute games - run time.

  • 3 players on ice; 5 players per team.

  • Line changes happen on the fly or at a whistle. Changes do not have to be in the neutral zone. Exiting player must be within 5' of the bench before the entering player can touch the ice.

  • Play is blue line in.

  • Both teams shoot on the same goalie.

  • Only the team that is in possession of the puck can score. I.e., if Team A has possession and Team B shoots and scores, it is a goal for Team A.

  • One ref on ice. They will only touch the puck at the beginning of the game and if the puck goes out of play.

  • Ice cut will happen after eight games (four game slots).

Rules of Play:

  • The ref will start the game with a faceoff just inside the neutral zone.

  • If Team A has possession and Team B takes it away, they must clear it out to the neutral zone and maintain/regain possession. This can be a pass out to a teammate or it can be skated across the blue line.

  • If the puck is dumped into the neutral zone and there is no one from the same team there to receive it, it is fair game. I.e. If Team B dumps the puck into the neutral zone with no one there to receive it, Team A can chase it down and regain possession in the neutral zone. (But be nice - no overly aggressive play and don't crash into the dividers at center ice, which could affect the other game.)

  • Once a team has possession in the neutral zone, the other team has to clear out.

  • The ref will announce who has possession to avoid an aggressive play in the neutral zone.

  • Only one person from the team gaining possession has to "tag up." All others can stay in the field of play. "Tag up" means fully crossing the blue with both skates and the puck.

  • If Team A scores or goalie freezes puck, possession goes to Team B with a restart in the neutral zone.

  • If the puck goes out of play, the ref will announce the team to be in possession and that team takes it in the neutral zone.

  • All penalties result in a penalty shot.

  • All skaters must move to the bench for a penalty shot.

  • The ref has discretion to eject a player for unsportsmanlike behavior.

  • No timeouts.

  • No overtime.

  • Round robin games can end in a tie.

  • Final games will go to a 3-person shootout if the game ends in a tie.

  • No checking.

  • This is a For Fun tournament with players of all skill levels. Good sportsmanship is expected of all players, refs, helpers, and fans.

  • The tournament directors have the right to eject anyone who is not behaving in the spirit of the tournament.
